Kozhikode (PTI): Expressing concern over reports that youths from Kerala are involving themselves in extremist activities, a Muslim religious body on Tuesday gave a call for eschewing violence and maintain amity.

`It is disturbing to note that our state has also come under terror cloud now and every effort will be made to maintain unity among all sections', Samastha Kerala Jam-Iyyathul Ulama General Secretary, Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musaliyar told reporters here.

As part of its continuing endeavourto maintain peace, the religious body would hold a meeting here on November 12 to create awareness among people belonging to all communities against the dangers of extremism, he said.

`Whoever indulges in acts of terrorism must be isolated from the mainstream and the people should be allowed to live in peace', he said, adding that the outfit also planned to hold mass conventions across the state to spread the message of secularism.

To a specific query that all the four suspected terrorists hailing from the state and killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir recently belonged to minority community, he said `it is our duty to stop people belonging to any community from engaging in such activities'.

Asked if the Muslim outfit National Development Front was involved in fundamentalist acts, he said it was for the government to ascertain the activities of such groups.
